Place Ruabon, Denbighshire

Notes

1. (Research):1901 census records head of household as Harry. Almost certainly a typo as age, birthplace matches, as do ages/birthplaces of Clara, Harry, Ethel & Frank; [Note Record]
2. The Freer family in Ruabon ended at 14 children in all, and during this time at least two of the daughters were sent to live with their maternal grandmother Sarah Moseby in Nottingham. Sarah had been widowed in about 1850 and remarried John Moseby. Mary Ann was the first - at 17, she was living with the Mosebys during the 1871 census employed as a machinist. Ten years later, Lucy was living with them aged 24, working as a seamstress. It is our strong suspicion that Clara was also dispatched to live with Sarah in the late 1880's and this is how she came to meet Frederick Blacknell (born Calverton) in around 1890.
3. This could be Frederick Blacknall [70], aged 25, as this is the only Frederick I have around that time

16. Clara Freer died in 1918 when Ethel was 22. She took over raising the younger childen particularly Gladys & Ernest (aged 11 & 8 respectively). They were known to refer to her as 'mam' demonstrating that she had taken on a motherly role.
17. Role: Witness
18. Role: Mourner
19. After the 1926 miners strike there was no work. Forced a move from Ruabon to Nottingham.
