4. Role: Inferred Resident
5. Role: Resident
6. The Freer family in Ruabon ended at 14 children in all, and during this time at least two of the daughters were sent to live with their maternal grandmother Sarah Moseby in Nottingham. Sarah had been widowed in about 1850 and remarried John Moseby. Mary Ann was the first - at 17, she was living with the Mosebys during the 1871 census employed as a machinist. Ten years later, Lucy was living with them aged 24, working as a seamstress. It is our strong suspicion that Clara was also dispatched to live with Sarah in the late 1880's and this is how she came to meet Frederick Blacknell (born Calverton) in around 1890.
7. (Research):Family bible appears to read 31 Jan 1850; [Note Record]
8. (Research):1861 Census - Mary Jane listed as 1 year old on 7/4/1861 so born between 4/1859 & 4/1860 (more likely 1859). However, elder sister Helen born 6/1859 which is within the window so they could be twin sisters. If not twins then Mary Jane should be born more than 9 months after Helen which is 3/1860 which is again inside the window. Both Helen & May Jane listed as 1 year old on the census, but Helen would be 1 year 10 months and Mary Jane 1 year 1 month. Looks like an enumeration error. Mary Jane Freer born Dec atr 1853 to mother maiden name Elliott. The ordering on the census is correct by age and this would make her 7 in 1861 census. Perhaps the 1 is actually a 7 (very poorly written). This also explains the uncharacteristically large gap between her mother's pregnancies! 1871 census - Mary Jane Freer living with John & Sarah Moseby (granddaughter to John Moseby) aged 17 born Quorndon, Leics. John was born Wakefield. Sarah born Leics. No other candidate Mary Jane Freer born Leicestershire 5 years either side of 1855 (other than in 1861) Death of Mary Jane Hatherley in 1926 (from burial) contradicted by GRO index age 71 (should be 73); [Note Record]
9. (Research):David Rudkin's grave 1907 is the same plot as his sister in law Lucy Johnson (nee Freer) buried 1910; [Note Record]
10. (Research):Went to work for Colonel Bulkeley at Oak Cottage, New Woodhouse, Whitchurch in his youth. Then for the Corbett family at Adderley (22 years) Then Major CT Dugdale at Terrick Hall approx 1900; [Note Record]
11. (Research):Possibly George Freer (36 in 1901, born Ruabon 1865) according to 1901 census index.; [Note Record]
12. (Research):Edith (b Abt 1873 in Ruabon) listed with Henry Evans (b Abt 1880) with child Edith (b Abt 1900 in Ladybarn) listed in 1911 census; 1 child alive out of 3; see rg14_23767_0009_03.jpg ; Ladybarn is in Manchester. Chorlton reg district. See births Q4 1900 8c 691 Edith James (aged 30 b Ruabon) listed with Thomas James in Fradswell Staffs 1901 census with 5 children. see STSRG13_2573_2575-0206; [Note Record]
13. Sarah Ann Eddleston 10 Jan 1881 stealing book, iron stand & cash (£2 14s 6d equic to £180 in 2017) from James Preston her master (of Oswaldtwistle), fined, as Sarah Ann Freer. Pleaded guilty of larceny as a servant after a previous conviction of felony.

18. Clara Freer died in 1918 when Ethel was 22. She took over raising the younger childen particularly Gladys & Ernest (aged 11 & 8 respectively). They were known to refer to her as 'mam' demonstrating that she had taken on a motherly role.
19. Role: Mourner
20. Role: Witness Fanny Freer of Terrick near Whitchurch died with Will to John Freer. Effects £280 11s 6d.
21. John's probate states death in Nov 1939 but this is a typo. Burial & death indexes both show 1938; [Note Record]
22. Role: Visitor
23. Effects £1030 7s 7d (£40,000 in 2017 money)
24. Age 57
25. There are 2 Sarah Eddleston's born circa 1855 who died after 1913. The 1914 death is Blackburn can be discounted because Sarah is listed in the Griffies household in the 1939 Register
