I’ve been researching my genealogy since 1988 when I started interviewing my eldest relatives. Although my primary focus has leant towards the Blacknells (and spelling variants), I've also uncovered many Quigleys, Freers & Colhouns. So far my family history can be traced back to 1730 in Calverton, Nottinghamshire.

I am a Blacknell and my family have lived in Seaham for a long time. Joseph Blacknell came to Seaham with Lord Byron as a horse trainer. Many of the Blacknell family are buried close to the Byron family in Hucknall, Nottingham. Seaham Hall, where Byron came after his marriage to Isabella, is now a spa.

I frequently walk along the same cliffs Lord Byron did and to get to the sea I walk down Lord Byron’s wall
